Mardine Carwardine is a fifth generation industry professional who remains personally responsible for the roast all the coffee beans the company supplies. The company uses traditional methods including a “Probat roaster” a mechanical roasting device which is “not for the novice”.
This unique approach gives Cawadine Coffee both narrative and edge in a highly competitive marketplace which is vulnerable to international trade fluctuations and commodity pricing challenges. With these factors in mind Cawadine needed to partner with a Magento specialist who can help promote his long-standing company’s story whilst ensuring smooth transactions for both retail trade and consumers alike.
The company chose to work with Comtecs due to our experience across multiple ecommerce platforms. Through discovery work, it was clear that Magento was not ideally suited to the business model. A more streamlined ecommerce process could be achieved without the need for some of the very powerful features of Magento, better suited to larger businesses with more backend integration requirements and functions.
The team migrated the Magento ecommerce shop (including customer data, sales history, products and prices) to a customised Shopify platform, modifying a template and resolving UX and process problems which had been faced by the incumbent Magento shop. Beyond this the team continues to offer support, guidance, maintenance and enhancements as required by this small yet well established business.
