BKS Tradeline Ltd is a UK wholesaler and distributor serving the smoking and vaping sector. As an authorised distributor for multiple leading brands, the business depends on a Magento ecommerce platform to handle B2B trade orders. Orders must reflect wholesale pricing and volume discounts that vary by product, quantity and availability, and these rules must work across Magento and the company’s stock, inventory and shipping system, Veeqo.

  • Successfully migrated BKS Tradeline from Magento 1.9 to Magento 2.4.x, creating a more modern and scalable trade ecommerce platform.
  • Delivered a tailored trade account application and approval workflow to support customer onboarding and account management.
  • Implemented trade-specific login, pricing display and management for 300+ customer pricing groups.

Comtecs' role

The Comtecs development team delivered a major Magento upgrade and extensive custom development to support BKS Tradeline’s trade requirements. The work combined platform migration, configuration and bespoke extensions to ensure pricing, account management and backend integrations function reliably at scale.

Scope of work

  • Migration from Magento 1.9 to 2.4.x, with provisions for subsequent upgrades as required
  • Multi-store setup, configuration and store-specific customisations
  • Design and development of a custom Trade Account application form and approval workflow
  • Trade-specific login and pricing display based on user profile/account; management of 300+ pricing groups
  • Algolia search engine integration with a customised search template
  • Bespoke "Add to Cart" functionality tailored to trade pricing and quantity rules
  • Product promotion carousel enhancements including user-interface design adjustments
  • Complex integrations with Sage (finance) and Veeqo (inventory management)
  • Ongoing maintenance, support and troubleshooting

Approach

Work was carried out as a coordinated upgrade and customisation programme. Key activities included platform migration, careful configuration of multi-store and trade account features, development of custom extensions to meet pricing requirements, and integration between Magento, Veeqo and Sage. The project also included iterative testing and post-launch support to stabilise the platform after deployment.

Outcome

The project delivered a renewed trade platform capable of supporting BKS Tradeline’s substantial client base of vape shops and retailers across the UK. Following the upgrade, the company has continued to grow while gaining internal process efficiencies that provide both commercial and operational benefit.
