Interview Preparation

It may seem obvious in the age of information, but gathering facts regarding a vacancy and the company along with traditional preparations made prior to interview can be the defining factors in deciding who is appointed from a shortlist of candidates.

We commit to ensuring that our candidates are well briefed prior to an interview and have had sufficient time to prepare answers to typical questions which may be asked during an interview.  Should you be required to participate in a technical test our consultants will advise you on what you can expect to complete and how to prepare, if possible.

There are numerous ways in which you can prepare for your interview assuming certain standard interview questions; here are a few suggestions:

“Who did you speak to at Comtecs?”
  • Remember your recruiter’s name!
“What do we do?”
  • Review their website and search the web for news results.
“What do you know about the vacancy?”
  • Review the job spec in detail and ask questions of your agent.
“When did you work at…?”
  • Know your CV and dates! If you don’t know then take a copy along.
“Why should I employ you?”
  • Know your strengths; match your experience to their requirements as laid out in the job spec; express your enthusiasm for the role!
“Do you have any questions”?
  • Ensure you have at least two insightful questions. e.g: “What do you see as the biggest challenge (or opportunity) facing your company now?
For candidates who are new to the interview process and those who have not interviewed in many years due to remaining with their employer here are a few standards which are worth bearing in mind:
-    Be prompt, well presented, professional and polite at all times
-    Pre-plan you journey; some candidates prefer a dry run the day before if possible
-    DON’T discuss money unless asked by the hiring manager; defer to your agent!
-    Be confident but without appearing arrogant
-    DON’T exaggerate your skills and experience
-    Think about the typical interview questions: Strengths?  Weaknesses? Problems overcome? Achievements in previous roles?
-    Ensure you keep your agent informed
